The Miami Heat will play one regular-season game as “Vice City.” The team has set Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2026, as “A Night in Vice City,” a home game at Kaseya Center held in partnership with Rockstar Games. It falls on the eve of Grand Theft Auto VI’s Nov. 19 release.

Here is what the team has confirmed as of Oct. 4, what it has not, and how the night connects to the real building downtown.

The confirmed basics

When: Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2026, 7 p.m. Eastern, according to the Heat’s event page.

Who: The Heat host the Milwaukee Bucks.

Where: Kaseya Center, 601 Biscayne Blvd., downtown Miami.

How to watch: The Heat list ESPN as the national broadcaster, WPLG Local 10 for local TV and 104.3 WQAM for radio (Heat event page).

Tickets: The event page sends buyers to Ticketmaster. We have not checked prices, which change with demand.

What the Heat and Rockstar have announced

The Heat’s event page lists four elements so far:

Uniform: a new design that the team calls fully reimagined, to be worn that night.

Court: a playing floor built for Vice City and used for this one game only.

In the arena: themed activities that begin on the Heat’s Opening Night, followed by activations on Nov. 18 itself.

More to come: the page promises further details. The Heat point fans to HEAT.com/ViceCity for them.

Merchandise is already on sale. The same page lists a Vice City apparel line under the team’s Court Culture label, sold through the Miami HEAT Store.

The partnership began on the arena roof. The Heat’s announcement, carried by The Source, dates it to the Oct. 1 lighting of the “Welcome to Vice City” letters there. CBS News Miami posted video of the lit sign on the morning of Oct. 1.

The basketball storyline

The opponent adds a second headline. In June, Milwaukee sent Giannis Antetokounmpo and Bobby Portis to Miami and got back Tyler Herro, three other players and a set of draft picks (ESPN, June 22). Yahoo Sports points out that Nov. 18 will be Antetokounmpo’s first game against the Bucks, the team where he spent his first 13 NBA seasons. Miami’s regular season starts earlier, on Oct. 21, at home against Minnesota.

What we don’t know yet

As of Oct. 4, none of these had been made public:

The uniform and court designs. Neither has been shown.

The “Uniform Drop.” The Heat page invites fans to sign up for it but does not say what it is.

How often the uniform will appear. The page’s title calls it the 2026-27 Vice City Edition uniform, while the event copy ties it to Nov. 18.

The in-arena program. The team has promised activations but not described them.

Rockstar’s role on the night. Beyond the partnership name, nothing has been said about game footage, giveaways or appearances.

Anything outside the arena, such as a public watch party or launch-night event downtown.

The Heat say further announcements will appear at HEAT.com/ViceCity.

The Miami angle: Sahara Arena

In Rockstar’s Vice City, the bayfront arena is called the Sahara Arena. Fan sites and gaming outlets have matched it to Kaseya Center. GTA BOOM points to the same curved shell, sloped front and waterfront setting. On Nov. 18, the building that inspired the game’s arena will host the Heat playing under the game’s city name.

Seeing the real place

Kaseya Center sits on Biscayne Boulevard, next to Bayside Marketplace and Biscayne Bay. You need a ticket to get inside on game night. The “Welcome to Vice City” letters are on the roof. They were first shown lit in early October, and no nightly lighting schedule has been published. Our Sahara Arena location page compares the game and real versions and lists the tours that pass the arena.

Downtown Miami’s newest landmark is a paid promotion for a video game. Since Sept. 22, the roof of Kaseya Center, the county-owned home of the Miami Heat, has carried the words “Welcome to Vice City,” the name of the Miami stand-in in Rockstar Games’ Grand Theft Auto VI. Here is what local reporting shows about how the sign got there, who signed off, what the county gets and how long it stays.

The sign at a glance

Installed: Tuesday afternoon, Sept. 22, 2026. Crews used a helicopter to lift each letter onto the roof and then secured them (WPLG Local 10; CBS News Miami).

Look: Large pink and white letters, according to Local 10. GTA BOOM puts the display at about 4,700 square feet.

Lit: At the start of October. CBS News Miami posted video of the illuminated sign on the morning of Oct. 1. The Heat’s announcement of its Nov. 18 Vice City game dates its Rockstar partnership to the Oct. 1 lighting.

Price: Miami-Dade County gets $975,000, the Miami Herald reported.

Who approved it

The mayor signed the deal and the County Commission did not vote on it. According to the Herald, Mayor Daniella Levine Cava signed the agreement on Sept. 10. Her office gave the document to the newspaper on Sept. 22, answering a request the Herald had made on Sept. 11. The Herald also reports that the county worked out the terms with the Heat as well as with Rockstar.

Commissioners heard about the deal during the county’s second budget hearing, which ran past 1:40 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 18 (Local 10). There, chief of staff Christopher Hudtwalcker said Rockstar was paying close to $1 million and that more county properties were in talks for signs. The commission’s chairman, Anthony Rodriguez, said he did not yet have enough detail. Hudtwalcker promised a fuller briefing before the next meeting. According to the USA TODAY Network, Hudtwalcker called it a joint marketing agreement and said the arena deal was the only one signed so far.

Gaming outlets including GTA BOOM reported that the price kept the deal under a $1 million line that would have required a commission vote. We could not confirm that this limit applies here. For years the county’s procurement code set the mayor’s delegated contract authority at $1 million. Ordinance 24-122, scheduled for a public hearing in November 2024, was written to raise that limit to $5 million for competitively bid purchasing contracts. We have not confirmed its final status, or which rule, if any, applies to a revenue agreement like this one.

Where the money is meant to go

The Herald reports that the mayor’s office presents the deal as new revenue. Levine Cava hopes to put the money toward a park that has been planned for years on Parcel B, the county-owned waterfront lot behind the arena. Local 10 said commissioners still have to decide how the revenue can be used for that site, which is also called Dan Paul Plaza.

How long it stays

The end date is the least settled part of the story. gHacks, in an article that draws on GamesRadar’s coverage, reported two possible end dates, with the later one applying: one year after installation, or the Heat’s final home game of the 2026-27 season on April 11, 2027. The same article says the agreement required the letters to be up by Oct. 15 (gHacks).

Taken literally, those terms run past April. One year after a Sept. 22, 2026, installation is late September 2027, which is later than the April 11 game. Several headlines nonetheless say “until April 2027.” Before the sign went up, GTA BOOM suggested 2028, crediting earlier coverage by the fan site GTAVice.net. We have not seen the agreement, and the county has not published a removal date.

Supporters and critics

Commissioners were split at the Sept. 18 hearing. Commissioner Keon Hardemon defended the game, saying how violent it gets depends on the choices players make (Herald; Local 10). Commissioner Juan Carlos “JC” Bermudez said any future money from the game should go to the sheriff’s office (Local 10).

Off the dais, Sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz objected to the partnership in a statement earlier in September (CBS News Miami). The Miami-Dade County Association of Chiefs of Police also came out against any county partnership that would brand the area “Vice City.” Its president, Pinecrest Police Chief Jason Cohen, said the game glorifies violence (CBS News Miami).

Where you can see it

The lettering lies across the arena roof. CBS News Miami says some travelers flying into Miami International Airport will be able to see it from the air. No lighting schedule has been published, and no source we found names street-level or high-rise spots with a clear view.

What we don’t know yet

The exact removal date, and whether the agreement allows an extension.

The contract text. The county released the agreement to the Herald. We have not obtained a copy and have not found it posted on any county website.

The lighting schedule: whether the sign is lit every night, and for how long.

Other county sites. Hudtwalcker said more signs were under negotiation. Ideas floated earlier for the airport, bus stops and manhole covers had not been agreed as of Sept. 3, according to the mayor’s office (CBS News Miami).

How the $975,000 will be budgeted for the Parcel B park.

In the game, the arena under the sign is the Sahara Arena. Our Sahara Arena location page compares the two and lists the tours that pass by.

Miami Ordinance 14490 allows Take-Two-approved banners up to 10,000 sq ft downtown for up to 56 days between Oct. 15 and Dec. 31. What it does and doesn't say.

Downtown Miami has a legal path to oversized Grand Theft Auto VI banners this fall. The City Commission passed an ordinance that sets aside a defined slice of downtown where the city may permit building-sized promotional banners for the game, starting no earlier than Oct. 15. It is often summarized as “banners from Oct. 15 to Dec. 31,” but the text is narrower than that. This story is based on the ordinance itself, City of Miami Ordinance 14490, which is posted on the city’s legislative site.

What the city passed

Sponsor: Commissioner Damian Pardo, District 2.

Votes: It passed first reading on Sept. 10 and was adopted on Sept. 24. Both votes were 5-0, with Commissioners Miguel Angel Gabela, Damian Pardo, Rolando Escalona, Ralph “Rafael” Rosado and Christine King in favor.

Effect: It takes effect on adoption, subject to the city’s usual rules on the mayor’s signature or veto.

Precedent: The ordinance places the game alongside the Super Bowl, the Miami Formula 1 Grand Prix and the 2026 FIFA World Cup, events for which the city previously relaxed its banner rules.

Where banners are allowed

The ordinance creates an “Event Area” bounded by NE Fifth Street on the north, the Miami River on the south, Biscayne Bay on the east and NE Second Avenue on the west. Properties fronting NE Fifth Street and NE Second Avenue are included. The text names no specific buildings. A banner can go on any property inside the zone, but only with city approval and at the city’s discretion.

When: a window, not a guaranteed run

Banners cannot go up before Oct. 15, 2026, and everything must come down by Dec. 31, 2026. The ordinance also caps the promotional period at 56 consecutive days. The Oct. 15 to Dec. 31 window is 78 days long, so banners permitted under this law cannot stay up for the whole span. The ordinance does not say when or how the 56-day period begins, and as of Oct. 4 no start date had been announced.

Size, fees and who signs off

Maximum size: 10,000 square feet per banner.

Who can apply: Permits are issued at the request of Take-Two Interactive, Rockstar’s parent company, or its authorized representatives. The ordinance limits the special treatment to displays approved by Take-Two as publisher.

Fee: $208,000 per permit for any banner over 5,000 square feet. Smaller banners pay the standard city fee.

Where the money goes: The city manager is directed to put net proceeds toward the Reverend Edward T. Graham Greenway capital project (No. 40-B193621). That is the official name of the long-planned Underdeck park and trail along the I-95 and I-395 corridors through Overtown (WLRN/Miami Times). Commissioner King tied the banner revenue to that Overtown trail and said no city assets are being used to promote the game (CBS News Miami).

The ordinance also states that it creates no permanent billboard, mural or signage rights on any property.

What we don’t know yet

Whether Take-Two has applied for any permits, and how many.

Which buildings will carry banners, and what the artwork shows.

The start date of the 56-day period.

How much the city will actually collect, which depends on how many large banners are permitted.

As of Oct. 4, the window had not opened. The ordinance does not allow any of these banners to be displayed before Oct. 15.

The rest of the Vice City map

The city’s banner zone is one of several local decisions:

Miami-Dade County already has a paid sign up: the “Welcome to Vice City” lettering on the county-owned Kaseya Center roof, installed Sept. 22 (WPLG Local 10). Earlier ideas for the airport, bus stops and manhole covers had not been agreed as of Sept. 3, the mayor’s office said (CBS News Miami).

Miami Beach commissioners voted 4-3 on Sept. 10 on a plan for discreet “Vice City” or “VI” branding on privately run beach chairs and umbrellas from mid-October to year’s end, skipping Art Basel week. Accounts of that vote differ. GTA BOOM reported that it authorized the city manager to negotiate, with no final contract. WSVN described it as an approval worth about $3 million. The picture gets murkier still. On Sept. 22 the Miami Herald reported that both Miami and Miami Beach had already signed marketing deals with Rockstar. That same day, CBS News Miami described Miami Beach as having turned down promotional opportunities tied to the game. We have not seen a signed Miami Beach agreement.

Separately, in September a banner reading “vice” appeared outside Kaseya Center. CBS News Miami asked the Heat about it and had no response at publication.
